Essella says that the power is not in herself but in Nusala's body paint which is in essence an anointing of her by he tribe. Aaron says that the horrid depredations of the whites demand this radical solution. Nusala says that when her painting fingers touch the body of Essella she feels the emanations of goodness that propel them toward the salvation of the tribe. |
